Chapter 12
“Check it…I grew up a fuckin’ screw-up,
got introduced to the game,
got an ounce and fuckin’ blew up…”
~ Notorious B.I.G., “Runnin’”
Jamal was very pleased with the amount of money the molly produced. He and the Get-Money Boys, their self-proclaimed name, were clocking work. He didn’t know there were so many flyers, the name he gave the pill-poppers. After only a month out of jail, he was able to buy a house in the historic Black Rock area, a 2012 Cadillac Escalade, and was in the middle of building a recreation center for the youth on the south side. He knew the way he was living was wrong, but giving back to his hood felt right. He planned to build the center in honor of Ms. Hope, because she made it her life to save children. The rec center would be named A Hopeful Beginning for that reason.
If somebody would’ve told him years earlier that ecstasy was the movement, he never would’ve believed it. The clubbers made it an even bigger movement. People wanted to get fucked up and party, then pop off and fuck—period.
One particular night, the night of Heem’s birthday, Jamal and his team were more than happy to deliver the goods to all the flyers at a strip club called Shakers Elite. They supplied the club owner with a massive order of mollies, so everything was on the house for Heem’s birthday celebration, including their choice of strippers. The club owner liked Jamal and his team a lot. He let them bring their burners in the club because he respected them and how they handled business. They never looked for trouble, but they didn’t back down when trouble came looking for them.
“I think I might have two or three bitches leave with me tonight!” Heem declared in a drunken slur.
Heem and Puda were twisted, while ‘Feer opted not to drink. They were on the east side, and he wanted to be on point in case any nigga tried to step to them. He instead smoked a blunt of loud and watched the strippers dance, twerked out of their fucking minds. Jamal was sippin’ Cîroc, just enough to get him to a nice place.
“One of these ladies in here tonight might be having my baby, baaaaby!” Heem sang along with Biggy as he flung money on the stage, making it rain on the gyrating strippers. Everybody laughed at him as the lights in the club went down and smoke filled the stage.
“A’ight! Y’all know what it is! The baddest bitch ‘bout to hit the stage. Put them dollar bills up and take out them big-dollar faces!” the DJ announced as Li’l Wayne’s “She Will,” featuring Drake, came on.
Everyone watched in awe as a brown-skinned stallion walked seductively onstage. As soon as the beat to the song dropped, she made love to the pole, dancing sensually and rocking perfectly with the beat. She made her rounds onstage, collecting money from both males and females. Her stage presence was electrifying, and no one could help being lost in a trance.
